This release brings Kokua up to parity with LL’s 7.1.10 DeltaFPS release which delivers a number of speed and performance improvements around PBR. https://releasenotes.secondlife.com/viewer/7.1.10.10800445603.html

We skipped 7.1.9 when it became apparent that it included a bug that could cause crashing to desktop on Windows systems with some Intel GPUs.

This release requires a newer Linux system than previous releases - GLIBC 2.35 is required, which means Ubuntu 22 or better and Debian 12 or better. Kokua may run on older systems, eg Ubuntu 20 however CEF will not run, so web pages within the viewer will not be available. The Linux version runs much more smoothly now since LL have fixed a number of the causes of frame stall which were most noticable on Linux.

There are some known bugs in the Linux version which we considered minor enough to proceed with the release.

  1. Ctrl W doesn't work

  2. 360 snapshot doesn't work

  3. Need wine installed for Vivox voice

  4. GLIBC 2.30 systems could still run the viewer, but with a broken internal browser.

Most readers will be aware that Kokua has a very small project team - two people, both with limited time for viewer activity. While we keep up with tracking LL releases this means there is limited time for additional work on the viewer and there’s a backlog of feature requests building up.

We’re inviting applications to join the Kokua team. Experience with C++ is essential, familiarity with working with the viewer is a bonus. In particular we’d like to hear from

  • People interested in working on bug fixes and enhancements for Kokua so we can bring down the issue backlog

  • A Linux specialist to help with maintaining our Linux version
